Shark Attack at Bahamas Resort Leaves 10-Year-Old Maryland Boy Injured

A 10-year-old boy from Maryland experienced a shark attack at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas while participating in a Shark Tank expedition. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, with the child bitten on the right leg. The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed that the victim was stable after being taken to a hospital and undergoing successful surgery at Doctors Hospital in Nassau.

Stuart Cove, owner of the company organizing the shark tank expedition, expressed deep sadness about the incident and assured that a dive instructor and guide immediately provided medical attention. The boy was later airlifted to the United States for continued care. This rare incident has prompted an internal investigation by the company, Blue Adventures, which paused the Atlantis resort's in-water experience. The US State Department is aware of the situation and ready to provide consular assistance, emphasizing concern for any harmed US citizen overseas. This follows a recent fatal shark attack near a Bahamas beach resort, underscoring the uncommon nature of such incidents.
