RULES IN WAR

Rules in war, governed by international humanitarian law, include principles like distinction, proportionality, and the protection of civilians. Parties in a conflict must distinguish between combatants and civilians, with deliberate attacks on civilians prohibited. Force must be proportionate to the military advantage, and only military targets can be attacked when necessary. The wounded, sick, and those in a party's control must be treated humanely, with no discrimination, and torture is banned. Medical and religious personnel and facilities must be respected, and indiscriminate weapons causing harm to civilians are prohibited. These rules aim to minimize suffering and uphold the rights of those affected, with violations carrying legal consequences.
