Eniola Balogun sentenced to 21years for raping 5 teenage girls in London

A US citizen who raped five teenagers, aged 13 to 16, while living in London after blackmailing them online has been jailed.
Eniola Balogun, 20, persuaded girls through social media websites Snapchat and Instagram to send him intimate photos.
He then threatened to distribute them unless they had sex with him.
Some of the victims were even told to perform sex acts via video on more than one occasion.
And detectives fear there may be even more young victims, who have not been traced, and urged any to come forward.
Balogun, of no fixed address but who had been living with relatives in the Tottenham area of north London, pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court in September to four counts of rape on four separate teenage girls, aged between 13 and 16. He also pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of a child.
He had been found guilty of a further three counts of rape following an earlier trial at the same court in March. These offences related to a 16-year-old girl.

Paris has finally opened a restaurant for diners who prefer to consume their food in the nude, unlike the rest of us who prefer to do the same thing in the privacy of our own homes.

The city’s very first nudist restaurant opened on Nov. 2 in the city’s 12th arrondissement.

Guests at the 40-seat eatery will reportedly be instructed to disrobe in a coat-check room (or more accurately, an everything-check room) before being brought to their tables. There, they’ll dine on fine French fare including duck foie gras and escargot.

Kenyan mother losses quintuplets

A Kenyan mother who gave birth to extremely rare naturally-conceived quintuplets has lost all five babies, according to a hospital in the south west of the country.
The mother, Jacintah Akinyi, 30 — who did not know she was carrying five babies — went into labour on Sunday and gave birth to two babies at home, who both died, before being transferred to the Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital.
Nurse Manager Florence Ogero said a third baby died that night, due to being underweight and suffering a condition caused by low levels of blood platelets.
“The other one had severe pneumonia and from all those birth-related complications, these babies have succumbed,” she told AFP.
“It was a premature delivery and the mother did not attend antenatal clinic. The multiple deliveries were diagnosed upon delivery so there was no anticipation,” she added.
Akinyi is already the mother of four children, and lost a fifth in an earlier pregnancy.

Italy to probe death of 26 Nigerians

Italian prosecutors are investigating the deaths of 26 Nigerian women - most of them teenagers - whose bodies were recovered at sea.

There are suspicions that they may have been sexually abused and murdered as they attempted to cross the Mediterranean.
Five migrants are being questioned in the southern port of Salerno.
A Spanish warship, Cantabria, docked there carrying 375 migrants and the dead women, following several rescues.
Twenty-three of the dead women had been on a rubber boat with 64 other people.
Italian media report that the women's bodies are being kept in a refrigerated section of the warship. Most of them were aged 14-18.
Most of the 375 survivors brought to Salerno were sub-Saharan Africans, from Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, The Gambia and Sudan, the daily La Repubblica reports.
Among them were 90 women - eight of them pregnant - and 52 children.
There were also some Libyan men and women on board.
People-smuggling gangs charge each migrant about $6,000 (£4,578) to get to Italy, $4,000 of which is for the trans-Saharan journey to Libya, according to the Italian aid group L'Abbraccio.
Many migrants have reported violence, including torture and sexual abuse, by the gangs

Five children left orphaned after both parents die of bowel cancer

A Nigerian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Omena Ubiaro, had died weeks apart, leaving five underage children. They reportedly died of bowel cancer.
As reported by Yahoo News UK, Omena died from bowel cancer just weeks after he tragically lost his wife, Makeda, to the same disease.
Thirty-eight-year-old Omena reportedly died from bowel cancer on Monday, September 4; while his wife, Makeda, passed away on July 29.
In a heartbreaking video posted online from his hospital bed just days before his death, Omena said cancer was the “toughest thing” he had ever had to face.
He said: “Myself and my five boys, we just lost my wife, they’ve lost a mother and I’ve also lost a best friend as well… It has been difficult for the boys, it has been difficult for myself.
“I know a lot of the time people say ‘be strong’, but sometimes it’s tough because I’m thinking ‘where do I find that strength from, that extra strength to be strong?’
“I cannot lie, it has been the toughest thing that a husband and a father has ever had to face or deal with.”
Omena had already been battling Stage 4 bowel cancer for two years when Makeda, also 38, was diagnosed with the same disease in August 2016.
Their family friend, Charles Busari, who lives in Tipton, West Midlands, set up an online fundraising page, to help the family.
It was initially to help raise money for Makeda’s funeral while her husband was bedridden in hospital, but the donations — which so far total more than £36,000 — will now be used to support the five boys in the future.
On the website, Mr Busari wrote: “It breaks my heart to report that sadly, our dear brother Omena has lost his fight to cancer.

No more visa to three African countries - US

The United States plans to stop issuing visas to citizens from four countries that it says aren’t accepting deported citizens.
The list includes three African countries — Eritrea, Guinea and Sierra Leone — as well as Cambodia. The U.S. has suspended visas twice before under previous administrations in efforts to push deportations forward.
Last week, the Department of Homeland Security notified the Department of State that the four countries are refusing to accept or are unreasonably delaying the acceptance of nationals deemed to be in the United States illegally, a violation of section 243(d) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Now, the State Department is evaluating how to implement the order.

Peyton West, teen who received heart transplant, dies on first day of school

Peyton West's parents would never have thought that his first day of school this year was going to be his last.
The 13-year-old had survived a heart transplant in March and spent the past five months living a full and fun life, said his father, Corey West. He developed a passion for food, especially Mexican. Soccer became his favorite sport, and he would watch FC Cincinnati professional games with his dad. It wasn't a coincidence that it had been his heart donor, Derek's, favorite sport, too.
"Peyton thought, 'hey, if Derek loved soccer, then I love soccer,' " West said.
Peyton woke up on Thursday excited for his first day of eighth grade in Goshen, Ohio. He was being goofy, West said, and the family took a photo of him smiling on their front porch. But 15 minutes later, when older brother Ethan dropped him off at school, everything changed.
He told Ethan he didn't feel well and then collapsed, West said. Ethan carried him to the school nurse's office. An ambulance rushed the boy to the hospital before his mother, Melissa, joined them.
The medics told Melissa West that they were quick to leave because Peyton's heart had stopped and it was a sight that no mother should see, West said.
Doctors tried for 2½ hours to revive him, but Peyton died at the hospital.

6 dead, 31 missing as boat sinks in Colombia

At least six people have died and 31 people are missing after a tourist boat carrying about 150 people sank in a reservoir in north-west Colombia, near the city of Medellín.
There was confusion over the death toll after Margarita Moncada, a local rescue official, confirmed nine had died in the accident on the Guatapé-El Peñol reservoir.
Later Colombia’s president Juan Manuel Santos arrived on the scene and said 122 people were either rescued or found their way to shore. Six had died and another 31 were missing, he said. The discrepancies in the number of fatalities could not be immediately reconciled.
The injured were being treated in the local hospital. Colombian air force helicopters were dispatched and stood ready to evacuate the most seriously wounded.
Rescued passengers said they had not been provided with life vests when they boarded the vessel.
Two residents of Guatapé told Blu Radio that the same boat had sunk about three months ago when it was tied at the dock. “They fixed it and it kept working normally,” one of the residents told the radio network.
The city of Medellín and the Colombian Red Cross sent rescue crews to the area. It was unclear if any foreigners were on the vessel.
Guatapé is a popular holiday spot for Colombian and foreign tourists attracted by water sports on the reservoir and rock climbing on the El Peñol rock face.

At least 59 people were injured in the blaze Saturday, including four firefighters and a child. Some were hospitalized in serious condition.

BEIJING – At least seven people were killed and 66 were injured, including children, in a blast Thursday near a kindergarten in eastern China, according to Chinese state media.
Two people died at the scene and five died at the hospital, Chinese Central Television reported. Nine are in serious condition, according to CCTV. It’s not clear if children were among the dead.
The explosion occurred in front of the gate of the Chuangxin Kindergarten at about 4:50 p.m., according to Fengxian police.
“The police and related departments rushed to the scene as soon as it was reported and conducted rescue and investigation work on the site,” police said on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform similar to Twitter. “Currently, the investigation work is still underway.”
Authorities have not said what caused the explosion. The Fengxian communication department did not answer a phone call from CNN.

Man City coach Guardiola leads Catalan independence rally

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has called on the international community to support a referendum on Catalan independence that Spain's government considers illegal.
Guardiola read a manifesto at a rally of several thousand supporters of Catalan independence who gathered at a fountain in Barcelona on Sunday. He said "democracies in Europe and around the world to stand by us as we defend our rights of freedom, political expression and the right to vote."
On Friday, Catalonia's regional president Carles Puigdemont announced that his government would hold the independence referendum on Oct. 1.
Spain's government has promised to stop the vote on grounds that it is unconstitutional since the matter would affect all Spaniards.
Guardiola is former coach and player for Barcelona soccer club.

US Lawmaker Apologizes for ‘How Not to Be a Victim’ of Rape Post

An Indiana state lawmaker issued an apology Saturday for sharing a Facebook post that critics say suggest rape victims are responsible for being attacked.
Indiana state Rep. Jim Lucas, a Republican who represents Indiana’s 69th district, said he’d been “publicly excoriated” for sharing his view that women should “empower themselves to mitigate their chances of being violently assaulted.”
Critics and constituents alike slammed the lawmaker — who is a vocal proponent of gun ownership as a means of self-protection — and accused him of co-opting a discussion about rape to champion his pro-gun stance.
On Monday, Lucas shared a photo of a handwritten letter he sent to an Indianapolis Star reporter urging her to follow up a June 4 profile of a rape victim with a story about women “taking steps & learning how not to be a victim.”
“After reading your front page article in the Sunday Star about the tragedy of rape, it would be nice to see a follow up article about the thousands of Hoosier women that are taking steps & learning how not to be a victim,” Lucas wrote.
The letter, written on official stationary embossed with Indiana’s state seal, was met with swift criticism and sparked a week-long debate and hundreds of comments, pitting Lucas and his supporters against others who said the post advocated “victim blaming.”
In the days that followed, Lucas doubled down on his defense of the original post, taking the time to personally respond to several comments, and in a subsequent post, even volunteering to pay for women who sign up to take a firearms training and self-defense course.
But on Saturday, Lucas said he’d had an opportunity to speak with the woman profiled in the original story and now realized why his words offended so many.
“I learned how common, everyday words can be so extremely sensitive to survivors of such horrible acts,” Lucas wrote. But he also said the backlash was a result of a misunderstanding, and criticized his detractors for twisting his words.
"Is there any wonder people don't want to discuss this issue and it remains off limits?" he wrote.
This is not the first time Lucas’ social media posts have drawn criticism. According to the Indianapolis Star, the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence called for Lucas to be ousted after he shared posts in December and January that appeared to promote domestic violence.
Lucas later deleted the posts and apologized, but he told the Star that the response to the posts were "totally blown out of proportion."

No red carpet for Trump in London - Mayor Sadiq Khan

Khan Sadiq on  left. Trump on  the right.

US President Donald Trump's war of words with the Mayor of London continued Monday, with the two men trading barbs even as the city mourns the victims of Saturday's terror attack. Speaking to the UK's Channel 4 News, London Mayor Sadiq Khan reiterated that he thought a planned state visit to the UK for Trump should be called off.

"I don't think we should roll out the red carpet to the President of the USA in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for," Khan said. "When you have a special relationship it is no different from when you have got a close mate. You stand with them in times of adversity, but you call them out when they are wrong. And there are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong." He said his position on the planned state visit had remained consistent.

In January of this year, Khan insisted Trump's state visit to Britain be canceled after the US President attempted to impose a travel ban on Muslim nations -- a policy that he labeled "cruel and shameful."
The British politician was largely dismissive of two tweets sent by Trump in the wake of the attacks, which misconstrued a statement from Khan. In the immediate aftermath of the attack, Khan said there was "no cause for alarm" when referring to a visible increase in police activity on the streets of London.

Trump appeared to misconstrue the statement on Sunday when he tweeted: "At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!"
Trump renewed his criticism of Khan on Monday, a day after attacking his handling of the weekend's terror attack in the city. Trump said: "Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his 'no reason to be alarmed' statement. (Mainstream media) is working hard to sell it!"

Following a vigil held near the city's famous Tower Bridge, Khan said that as he deals with the fallout from the latest attack on the British capital, he hasn't "got the time to respond to tweets from Donald Trump."
